Kanye West In Talks To Join 'Jetsons' Movie, Producer Confirms
After 'Ye mentioned his possible involvement in the film, Denise Di Novi tells MTV News about a 'fun brainstorming conversation' with the MC.

In what would easily be the coolest movie news of 2012, Kanye West dropped word in the midst of a scorching series of Twitter updates that he was in discussions to join up with a long-gestating adaptation of "The Jetsons."
"I was just discussing becoming the creative director for the Jetson movie," he wrote.
Could it be true? The live-action adaptation of the futuristic Hanna-Barbera cartoon — starring George Jetson, his boy Elroy, daughter Judy, Jane his wife, plus their robot maid Rosie — has been in development for years, with Robert Rodriguez attached to direct at one point. MTV News put in a call to producer Denise Di Novi, who confirmed that talks with 'Ye had indeed taken place.
"Kanye's always been a Jetsons fan, I think because he's so into design and he loves the design aspects," she told us exclusively. "So we had a fun brainstorming conversation."
The call took place after West touched base with producers and told them he was interested in working on the project. "We heard that he knew we were working on the Jetsons," Di Novi said. "He reached out and said he's a huge Jetsons fan. There are a lot of Jetsons fanatics out there, especially people that are into either futuristic science or design. He was interested in creatively brainstorming what we were doing with the movie and what ideas he might have. It was a really friendly, preliminary conversation."
At this point, though, Di Novi is unsure if Kanye will actually sign on to become creative director of "The Jetsons." "He was going to think about it more and see if he got inspired visually," she said. "He's a very visual artist."
Kanye did mention in his Twitter spree that he was annoyed about one suggestion that arose during the conversation. "Someone on the call yelled out.. you should do a Jetsons tour!" he wrote. "This just happened a few hours ago. I was very insulted of course because for anyone that's seen the Watch the Throne Tour...Or Coachella or Glow in the Dark or Runaway.. you know I have real ideas."
Di Novi, however, said the tour comment was nothing more than a good-natured joke, especially because her production company is involved solely in the movie business. "We were just kind of joking about that," said Di Nova, whose credits include "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and many Tim Burton films. "I don't know if he would want to do that, but it was just a fun comment."

Economist group sets ethics guidelines (Reuters)
(Reuters) ? The American Economic Association, the world's largest association of economists, on Thursday beefed up disclosure guidelines on the potential conflicts of interest of authors who publish work in the group's journals.
The new guidelines come a year after about 300 economists, including former White House economic adviser Christina Romer and Nobel Prize winner George Akerlof, signed a letter urging the AEA to adopt an ethics code.
The letter cited a study of 19 financial economists that found the vast majority did not reveal their private affiliations when writing academic papers on financial regulatory reform or opinion pieces in newspapers.
The AEA said its executive committee had set ethics guidelines requiring that every article submitted to AEA publications should state the sources of financial support for research, and each author should identify any interested party from whom he or she has received financial consultant fees, retainers or grants of at least $10,000 in the past three years.
The disclosure requirement applies to close relatives or partner of any author and also covers in-kind support, such as access to data, the AEA said in a statement at its annual meeting in Chicago.
Authors are required to disclose any paid or unpaid positions as officer, director, or board member of non-profit advocacy organizations or profit-making entities with policy positions or financial interests related to the published article, said the association.
Information on relevant potential conflicts of interest will be made available to the public when articles are published, the AEA said.
The association urges its more than 17,000 members to apply the ethics rules to scholarly journals, op-ed pieces, columns, radio and television commentaries, and testimony before federal and state legislative committees and agencies, it said.
The AEA publishes the American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Economic Perspectives, and the American Economic Journals: Applied Economics, Economic Policy, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics.

Waverly mayor Reed announces resignation
WAVERLY -- Waverly Mayor Dale Reed announced his resignation Tuesday night, just days into his latest term.
Reed announced his resignation before other elected officials were sworn into office at the beginning of the Waverly City Council meeting.
Reed ran unopposed for re-election in November. He did not offer a reason for his resignation, but told attendees he thought he had served to the best of his ability. He left the meeting shortly after the announcement without any further comment.
Reed was serving as council president in 2006 when he was appointed to the mayor's post after former Mayor Bill Kelly resigned. He was replaced by current president of the board, Greg Kempton.
Kempton, who had served as the city's At-large representative and had been re-elected president in an unopposed race in November, will be mayor of Waverly for the next two years. He will be required to run in the next primary election in 2014 to keep the seat. Kempton said he wasn't surprised by the resignation but that he was surprised by the timing.
Replacing Kempton could prove difficult, as council was split three against three as to whom to appoint to fill the position.
After Kempton was sworn in as mayor, Joyce Thompson, 1st Ward, Dick Demlow, 2nd Ward, and Tom Patterson, At-large, supported a nomination of Patterson to serve as council president after Kempton's departure. New 5th Ward Councilman Brian Blakeman joined his father, Forest Blakeman, 4th Ward, and Bret Bevens, 3rd Ward, in voting against Patterson, and Bevens nominated Forest to serve as president. The trio voted in favor of that motion, but Thompson, Demlow and Patterson voted it down.
Demlow then moved that the council approve Patterson as president for Tuesday's meeting only so it could conduct business, but that also failed in a 3-3 deadlock along the same voting lines.
The council eventually unanimously agreed to allow Thompson to serve as president pro-tem for the Tuesday meeting. The face-off set the stage for another disagreement.
The council had to take nominations to fill Kempton's at-large seat vacancy. Thompson, Demlow and Patterson nominated former councilman Steve Fisher, who chose not to run in 2011 for the seat the younger Blakeman has. Fisher said he would agree to serve if appointed, but both Blakemans and Bevens voted against it.
Bevens then nominated former council member Jonathan Claytor, who in 2006 at age 23 resigned from the council. His nomination was supported by the Blakemans, but defeated by Demlow, Thompson and Patterson.
The council has 30 days to appoint a seventh council member to replace Kempton on the board and to select a new member to serve as council president. If members don't, Kempton in his new mayoral capacity will have to make the appointment.
"I really do want council to make that appointment, and I believe they can," Kempton said, hinting that the council could call a special meeting to discuss and reach an agreement on the issue.
In the meantime, Kempton said his biggest issue will be tackling the city's budget, which needs to be cut by about $500,000, according to Auditor Harvey Whaley's estimates.
"The general fund and building the budget is going to be my number one (priority)," Kempton said.

MUMBAI, Jan 3 (Reuters) - India's Reliance Industries Ltd (RELI.NS) said it would invest in media group TV18's two main companies, marking a major foray into the media sector by the energy-focused conglomerate and giving a boost to its plans to launch 4G services.
Under the deal, Reliance will put up the money to allow the controlling shareholders of the TV18 group to subscribe to rights issues in the two firms, Network18 Media and Investments (NEFI.NS) and TV18 Broadcast Ltd (TVEB.NS).
In return, India's biggest listed company will get preferential access to content from TV18 group, which would be distributed through the 4G broadband network it is setting up.
Network18 Media and Investments runs business news portal moneycontrol.com, while TV18 Broadcast operates television channels including CNBC-TV18 and CNN-IBN.
Reliance, controlled by Mukesh Ambani, Asia's richest man, did not disclose the size of its investment.
But TV18 said in a separate release that interests associated with group founder Raghav Bahl would contribute 17 billion rupees ($320 million) to the rights issues.
Bahl will retain management and majority control over TV18 and Network 18, the statement said.
A trust set up by Reliance will subscribe to convertible debentures that will be issued by Bahl interests.
CASH RICH
A Reliance spokesman declined to comment on how much of a stake the company would eventually hold in the issuing entities.
"Reliance is cash-rich and has been looking for new businesses to put money in. TV18 group has been bleeding money, so getting in an investor will definitely help them," said K.K. Mital, head of portfolio management services at Globe Capital.
The deal also calls for Reliance to transfer most of its stake in unlisted regional broadcaster ETV and most of its channels to TV18 Broadcast for 21 billion rupees ($395 million).
Reliance share closed 2.6 percent higher in a strong Mumbai market .BSESN. Network18 Media and TV18 Broadcast (TVEB.NS) each rose by 20 percent, their maximum daily limit.
Network18 and TV18 announced earlier that their boards had approved a rights issue to raise 40 billion rupees, after adjusting for Network 18's holding in TV18.
TV18 will use the proceeds to repay debt, fund the acquisition of the ETV channels, and for working capital. Network18 will use the funds to repay debt and subscribe to the TV18 rights issue.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Economic Times newspaper reported that Reliance would invest about 15 billion rupees in TV18 group's two main companies.
"This gives TV18 group a fresh lease of life," said a sector analyst at a foreign brokerage. "This deal also works out for Reliance as it was stuck in the investment in ETV and they could not have monetised it better."
The TV18 group, saddled with mounting debt caused by a slowdown in spending on advertising, is not profitable.
Reliance has been looking to diversify as growth in its core oil and gas business slows.
The company, which has also invested in retail and financial services, made a dramatic return to the telecoms sector in 2010 by taking control of the only firm that won wireless broadband licences across India, and is now preparing to launch services.
Worries about declining output at its gas fields off India's east coast helped to drag down Reliance's share price by more than 30 percent in 2011, contributing to a near 25 percent fall in India's main stock index.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) ? A Nevada rancher who spotted a man and woman walking in a desolate area Tuesday while surveying his cattle from the air led police to arrest the suspects in the killing of an elderly Utah couple in a crime spree that spanned two states.
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Jim Phelps told The Associated Press that Logan Welles McFarland, 24, and Angela Atwood, 25, were found Tuesday afternoon near Interstate 80 about 35 miles west of the Utah border, not far from where they ditched police in a high-speed chase Saturday.
Phelps said the couple didn't resist and were taken into custody as suspects in the killings and in the shooting of a woman during a botched carjacking in Nevada.
The couple had abandoned their car and weapons before federal marshals, Elko County sheriff's deputies and West Wendover police made the arrest at about 12:30 p.m. a few miles south of Oasis, Nev., said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Stewart.
The arrest was "pretty calm," Stewart recounted, adding that the suspects said, "We give up."
Rancher and Elko County Commissioner Demar Dahl, also a pilot, spotted the suspects from the air Tuesday while surveying his cattle.
He said he called authorities Monday night to ask if the suspects had been captured and figured he'd keep an eye out.
"We flew and looked, and sure enough we found them," Dahl told the AP.
"We didn't have any cellphone coverage, so we followed them for a ways, just circling them," Dahl added. "We flew low, right down next to them."
Dahl said he then flew back into cell range and called authorities.
"It was just lucky that we found them," he said.
The suspects' stolen vehicle had not been found, and police believe it may have broken down in the mountains south of I-80.
On Sunday, authorities issued an arrest warrant for McFarland in the burglary of the Utah couple's Mount Pleasant home. He has since been charged.
Authorities suspect McFarland and Atwood are responsible for the killings, and the carjacking and shooting of the West Wendover woman, who is recovering at a Salt Lake City hospital, but they had not been formally charged with those crimes.
Federal marshals said they would drop a charge of unlawful flight to let state authorities take over the case.
McFarland has a recent criminal history that includes drug and theft charges, according to the Utah state courts database. He was released Oct. 10 after spending a month in jail for a conviction of theft by receiving stolen property. He was supposed to pay a $500 fine in monthly installments. In August, he was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. That charge was dismissed a month later by prosecutors.
Atwood has some minor offenses listed in court records.
Her parents believe she was an unwilling participant in the crime spree, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. They reacted in joy at the news she was arrested and safe. Neighbors told the AP that the parents, Mike and Denise Atwood, immediately drove to the Elko, Nev., jail.
"I believe that Logan has held her hostage, that he has held her so scared that she hasn't been able to do anything but follow him," Denise Atwood told the newspaper. She said Angela Atwood was engaged to a different man, a former U.S. Marine.
No phone listing could immediately be found for McFarland's parents.
Police said a witness told them McFarland bragged at a Friday night party about obtaining money and firearms.
The warrant filed in court Tuesday says McFarland and a woman left in a stolen car for West Wendover, Nev., where police say they shot and wounded a woman in the head during an attempted carjacking.
McFarland and Atwood had been last seen in Nevada on Saturday driving a stolen gray Volkswagen Jetta. They led police on a 50-mile chase at speeds up to 100 mph before turning off the interstate and fleeing into the hills.
Jewelry and other stolen items from the home of the Utah couple, LeRoy and Ann Fullwood, were found in the trunk of a car the suspects took from the host of the Friday night party, police said.
The car was ditched about 45 miles away and a stolen Saturn sedan was allegedly used to drive to West Wendover. A receipt from a fast-food restaurant found in the car indicated the meal was paid for with LeRoy Fullwood's stolen credit card.
The Jetta was then stolen in a motel parking lot.
